Chicago Bears: Senior Bowl standouts from practice No. 2; 1 would ‘love’ to be a Bear

NCAA Football: Cotton Bowl Tulane at Southern California

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles, assistant general manager Ian Cunningham and director of player personnel Trey Koziol were on the scene at Hancock Whitney Stadium on Wednesday.

The Bears’ most obvious needs in the 2025 NFL Draft are in the trenches. Frankly, depth issues on the offensive and defensive lines will not be fixed in free agency alone.

Several offensive linemen stood out at practice No. 2, including Texas Tech offensive lineman Caleb Rogers. Rogers confirmed to CCS that he had a meeting with the Bears this week.

I love them,” Rogers said regarding his interview with Chicago. “It seems like they love me, or at least I hope they do…got into some just familiarity, but also got into some football stuff, getting on the board, getting on, you know, like watching my own tape, looking for recall, that type of stuff. So I feel it’s gone pretty well.”

Rogers predominately played offensive tackle in college, only having 301 snaps at guard. However, Rodgers is projected to play guard or center in the NFL, and that’s where his coaches have put him at the Senior Bowl this week.

A few standouts from Wednesday’s Senior Bowl practice

North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel has received much buzz this week, as evidenced by scouts’ praise and the long line to interview him at Media Day. Zabel played a lot of tackle at NDSU. However, he said he’s willing to play any position in the NFL, including center. Zabel said he has experience snapping the ball at Pierre T.F. Riggs High School.

USC offensive lineman Jonah Monheim had an outstanding day as a center at the Senior Bowl on Wednesday. Monheim could be a person of interest to the Bears because of his connection to quarterback Caleb Williams. The two played together in 2022 and 2023.

North Carolina interior OL Willie Lampkin held his own against Georgia defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkin in a one-on-one drill.

Sacramento State OL Jackson Slater had an impressive day in practice No. 2. He held his own in a couple of one-on-one drills against SEC defensive linemen.

Texas Edge Barryn Sowrell had several nice plays on defense. He made a couple of solid pass-rushing attempts and would have earned a sack on a one-on-one drill.

Boston College Edge Donovan Ezeiruaku used a nice swim technique to blow by Oregon left tackle Josh Conerly Jr.

Kentucky DL Deone Walker used a nice run fit to help blow up a run play.
