The death of democracy?

Warning: This commentary, even by libertarian standards, may be viewed as politically incorrect.

We here at The Price of Liberty are definitely not fans of democracy. If we were facing its demise, we would certainly be on our knees thanking our God for it.

Why? Democracy is “rule by majority vote.” To engineers, to scientists, to followers of Christ Jesus, “this does not compute.” To Old Army veterans, who were taught that republics decay into democracies which in turn decay into tyrannies, we rightly object to seeing that process before our very eyes. As free-market anarchists and more, we see government (mandatory human government) as rebellion against the Creator and something that is ultimately evil. Even if it can sometimes be used for good.

So we welcome its end. Even as too many around us, and too many who are in power, decry its loss. As our correspondent Rob Morse (and so many others) has pointed out, right now, both old parties are screaming about how The Donald and his sidekick Musk are destroying the institution. To which we reply, “about time.”

These Republican and Democrat politicians are right. The Don-and-Elon team is a real “threat to democracy as we know it.” Indeed, they have arrived just in time. Is it not funny to watch low-level federal judges issue injunctions against DOGE while the judge’s family members are on the Soros payroll. Note that an honest judge would recuse themselves. (Yes, we use the definition usually applied to cops: “An honest judge is one that stays bought.”)

The truth? Our situation here in the Fifty States is desperate and serious. As we have pointed out recently, these scummy, entrenched politicians have put us in debt to the tune of over 100-thousand dollars per person. The FedGov is essentially an unleashed tidal wave of bureaucrats that enforce contradictory regulations. All courtesy of the US Congress, a bunch of pandering, greedy, gutless wonders. Compliance with billions of words of laws and regulations and guidelines and court (and fake court) decisions and interpretations is often not possible. Where it is at all possible, our compliance costs hundreds of billions of dollars a year. The taxes and the regulations stop old companies from growing. They kill off many small, mom-and-pop companies. They also stop new companies from being formed. While not just allowing criminal, immoral enterprises to thrive but actually making it easier for those to form! Together, all these things are killing us slowly and silently.

Democracy means corruption. It means power through the buying of votes, through influence due to a desperate need to cozen the public (especially voters), and through a system that benefits those in charge and those who lick their boots while punishing honest and peaceful people.

Do you not think that we should have known this was happening? Enter in the “fascist” (corporatist) element of the present FedGov – and State and local government as well. The government’s organs mesh with the so-called private businesses: the press, the military-industrial complex, the financiers, and the cabal of Pharma and Healthcare to lie. All of them, including the establishment media, were too corrupt themselves, and so too partisan and greedy, to spotlight the corruption. Much less tell us about them. To many, it is sad that many of our major institutions were corrupt and addicted to a government handout. To others, it is clear this is not new – just the crop from years of planting tainted seed and pretending that all was well.

Of course, that is hard news to accept. The professions which we long trusted were corrupt: journalism, medicine, education, legal, and more. Today, we have alternatives like X and vast sources of online information available at our fingertips in all these matters. Praise be for that! (But we must also remember that even these alternatives can become corrupt, like Twitter and alternative medicine. Remember that being corrupted is not necessarily voluntary: it can be and is often coerced, co-opted.)

Now in 2025, it is obvious that our civilization is still dying – dying from within. It may be that The Donald and Elon the Wildcard have bought us time. We, like Rob Morse and many more, know that the outcome is still in doubt. Freedom – liberty – is always a fragile thing.

But we pray that we can shout, “Death to Democracy.” And soon. And thank God for Musk and Trump. We are no more great fans of them as individuals than we are of government or democracy. But we know that God uses evil men to sometimes accomplish good things, and pray that is the case now.
