Yankee Injury Potpourri
What in the world is going on with the Yankees and injuries this spring? It’s like a horror movie where the monster isn’t a masked slasher but rather a never-ending string of potential IL stints. And leading the charge into this disaster? None other than Aaron Boone, who continues to prove he’s as clueless as ever.
“Physicals came back clean,” Boone assured everyone with a straight face just a few days ago. And then, like clockwork, the Yankees’ Spring turned into a medical emergency room. Can we just be honest? Boone had no idea what he was talking about. He just said something to get past the question. Classic jerkoff. Honestly, he might be the worst so-called “leader” the Yankees have ever had, and that’s saying something—because let’s not forget, Stump Merrill had the 1990 Yankees running in quicksand.
And while Giancarlo Stanton’s elbows have been the topic of discussion (because of course they have), he’s far from the only one with issues. On February 19, Boone casually mentioned that Clarke Schmidt is being slowed down in camp due to a “cranky back.”
“Clarke Schmidt had a ‘cranky back’ after his last side,” Boone reported. “He came in ahead, so the Yankees have slowed him down a bit, but threw a flat side today. If he rebounds well, he’ll throw another side Friday.” That’s according to New York Post beat writer Greg Joyce on X.com.
You know what? Maybe Marcus Stroman is going to come in handy after all. Schmidt was already limited to just 16 starts last season due to shoulder fatigue, and let’s be real—his only truly healthy MLB season was in 2023. The guy is talented, but he’s not exactly a beacon of durability.
And just when Yankees fans were getting excited about Chase Hampton, the next big thing out of the farm system, the injury bug struck again. Bryan Hoch reported that Hampton has a right flexor strain and, even worse, “something going on in the UCL,” according to Boone. So now Hampton is in New York City for testing, and we all know what that usually means.
All of these setbacks come right on the heels of the Marcus Stroman drama that shook Yankees camp. But you know what? Given how this spring is shaping up, Stroman might just end up looking like one of the Yankees’ best moves. Who would’ve thought?
