Mercedes-Benz, F1 Team, Factorial Road Testing Solid State Batteries
Mercedes-Benz has commenced road testing of a prototype EQS sedan equipped with a solid-state battery, developed in collaboration with U.S.-based startup Factorial Energy. This initiative brings together engineers from both Mercedes-Benz’s passenger car division and its Formula 1 team to advance electric vehicle (EV) technology.
The solid-state battery aims to enhance EV performance by offering higher energy density, improved safety, and reduced weight compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. The prototype EQS is expected to achieve a range of approximately 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) on a single charge, a significant increase over current models.
This collaboration underscores the growing synergy between high-performance motorsport engineering and the development of sustainable electric vehicles. The road tests will evaluate the battery’s performance, safety, and integration potential in future production models, marking a pivotal step toward the commercialization of solid-state battery technology.
