Blood rain’ hits Iran: Bizarre phenomenon

The shoreline off an Iranian island turned bright red after getting battered by heavy rains in a scene straight out of the Bible.

This phenomenon isn’t supernatural — the soil, known as gelak, reportedly contains a high amount of iron oxide, hence the plasma-evoking hue.

“Walking along the shore you will encounter parts where sand glitters with metal compounds, especially mesmerizing at sunset or sunrise,” the Iran Tourism and Touring Organization wrote, per the Daily Mail. “The soil color around you keeps changing as you walk or ride.”

In fact, Hormuz is known as the “rainbow island” due to its kaleidoscopic landscape, which is caused by the more than 70 minerals found on it.

 

Blood Rain in the Bible

In the Bible, blood rain is mentioned in several passages, often as a symbol of divine judgment or a portent of significant events. Revelation 11:6 describes two witnesses who have the power to turn waters into blood, among other miracles, during their prophetic mission. This verse is part of a larger narrative of end-times prophecies and is often interpreted within the context of the book’s overall themes of judgment and redemption.1

Revelation 16:4 also refers to blood rain, where the third angel pours out his bowl on rivers and springs of water, turning them into blood.2 This event is part of a series of judgments described in the book of Revelation, which are seen as divine interventions leading to the ultimate triumph of God’s will.

The concept of blood rain is also referenced in other biblical texts. For example, in Revelation 8:7, hail and fire mingled with blood are thrown to the earth, causing destruction.5 These passages are interpreted by scholars and believers as symbolic representations of divine judgment or significant changes in the spiritual and physical world.

Sea Turns Red As Blood
